Legal
Terms of Service
Effective September 1, 2026. These terms are an agreement between you and Lost Money Detective, LLC for use of Lost Money Detective.
Draft pending legal review. This is a product-specific draft prepared for review. It should be reviewed by qualified counsel before it is relied upon as a final published policy.
1. The service
Lost Money Detective is a consumer tool that reviews evidence you authorize — such as email history and, if you choose, financial account transaction history — to identify items that may represent recoverable value, and to help you organize the steps to pursue them. The service is informational. It does not file claims, collect money, hold funds, or act as your agent.
2. Eligibility and your account
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide, for keeping your sign-in secure, and for activity under your account. You may only connect accounts you own or are authorized to access.
3. Connected accounts
Connecting an email or financial account is voluntary. By connecting an account you authorize us and our service providers (including Plaid and Nylas) to access the data described in the Privacy Policy for the purposes described there. You may disconnect at any time. Your relationship with your financial institution and with Plaid is governed by their own terms.
4. No guarantee of results
We do not promise that any money will be found, that an identified item is actually owed to you, that an amount is accurate, or that a recovery attempt will succeed. Items are labeled with a status and confidence, and items marked as needing verification require you to confirm them with the merchant, issuer, or program before acting.
5. Not advice, not a government service
The service does not provide financial, tax, investment or legal advice. Lost Money Detective is not a bank, a government agency, a consumer reporting agency, a debt collector, or a claims filer, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any financial institution or government program. State and federal unclaimed-property programs are free to search and claim through directly.
6. Acceptable use
- Do not access accounts or data you are not authorized to access.
- Do not attempt to disrupt, reverse engineer, scrape, or circumvent security controls of the service.
- Do not use the service to submit false or fraudulent claims to any merchant, issuer or agency.
- Do not resell or redistribute the service or its output without permission.
7. Fees
Any paid features will be described, with pricing, before you are charged. Where no paid plan is presented, the service is provided without charge and may change or end at any time.
8. Intellectual property
We retain all rights in the service, its software, and its branding. You retain all rights in your own data. You grant us a limited license to process your data solely to provide and support the service.
9. Third-party services
The service depends on third parties, including financial data connectivity and email connectivity providers. We are not responsible for their availability, accuracy, or acts, and outages may limit results.
10. Disclaimers
The service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind to the maximum extent permitted by law, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lost Money Detective, LLC will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits or lost value, arising from your use of the service. Owner confirmation needed: counsel should set the aggregate liability cap.
12. Termination
You may stop using the service and delete your data at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for violation of these terms or to protect the service or its users.
13. Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected in the effective date and, where appropriate, notified in the app. Continued use after changes means you accept them.
14. Governing law and disputes
Owner confirmation needed: the governing law, venue, and any arbitration or class-action waiver terms should be set by counsel before publication.
